Why does water flow when the air conditioner is hung up? These reasons are more common
One of the most frightening faults in the air conditioner is dripping water from the indoor unit. This kind of failure may seem serious, but in fact the reasons are relatively simple. Some people specially find someone to do door-to-door repairs for this matter. The maintenance cost is not much, but the door-to-door fee costs 100 yuan. It’s better to check it yourself. Most faults can be repaired with a little hand.
The internal machine is not horizontal
Water drips from the inner unit of the air conditioner, and the water that drips is condensed water: when the air conditioner is refrigerated, the evaporator temperature of the indoor unit is extremely low. When water vapor in the air of the room encounters a low-temperature evaporator, it will condense into water, forming condensed water.
Under normal circumstances, the condensed water would flow down the evaporator until it reached the bottom of the evaporator, where it would be caught by something called a “water collection pan.” The water collection plate has no technological content. You can understand it as the plate on which we eat.
If the plate is tilted, the amount of water that can hold in the plate will definitely decrease. If the inner unit of the air conditioner is tilted, the water collection pan inside must also be tilted, which causes the water in the pan to spill out.
We can see with the naked eye or measure with the help of a level. Check whether the sides of the indoor unit are horizontal. If not, we need to straighten it-the same is true for the cabinet unit. The ground should be flat, otherwise it will tilt. If necessary, you can use other things to pad the bottom of the cabinet.
Dirty filter
Under normal circumstances, condensate from the air conditioner should be produced on the evaporator, so that it can flow along the evaporator to the water collection pan as we said above. But there are exceptions, which is when the filter is dirty:
The filter is installed outside the evaporator to prevent dust from contaminating the evaporator and affecting the cooling effect. But if the filter is dirty, the dust on the filter will block the water vapor and allow condensate to be generated on the filter. The condensed water on the filter screen has nowhere to go. It will only flow down the filter screen and eventually drip down the bottom of the inner machine.
At this time, we may wish to remove the filter and clean it. Under normal circumstances, the problem can be solved-the air conditioner filter should be cleaned regularly, at least twice a year (the instructions suggest once a month).
Condenser pipe is blocked or broken
Where should the water concentrated in the water collection pan go? The answer is that at one end of the water collection pan, there will be a pipe. The water in the water collection pan will flow outside along this pipe. This pipe used for drainage is the condensate pipe.
When the condensate pipe is blocked, the water in the water collection pan is trapped. When the amount of water in the water collection pan continues to increase until it exceeds the capacity of the water collection pan, water will begin to drip. This failure has a very obvious feature: the air conditioner does not drip water as soon as it is turned on, but only starts to drip water after a long time of use.
At this time, the problem can be solved by replacing the condensation pipe with a new one, or removing the old pipe and unblocking it. The price of the new condenser pipe is very low, about 5 yuan per meter.
There is also a more special situation, that is, the condensate pipe breaks. Condensate pipes are all plastic, and it is normal to break after aging. In this case, the drip location is often not on the indoor unit, but along the pipe connecting the internal and external units of the air conditioner.
Or sometimes the length of one condensate water pipe is not enough, and two water pipes need to be connected together. The position of this joint may also drip.
There is no good way at this time, so we can only replace the new water pipes-the maximum length of the condensate pipes can be 10 meters, so try not to connect the two short pipes together and buy a longer pipe directly.
The height of the inner machine is unreasonable
The water in the water collection pan flows away through the condensate pipe, relying entirely on the water’s own gravity. As the saying goes, water flows downward. If the water wants to flow away automatically, the water collection pan must be placed in a higher position.
Look at the air conditioning hole in your home, and then look at the location of your indoor unit: the bottom edge of the indoor unit must be above the top edge of the air conditioning hole. The air conditioning holes in many people’s homes are too high, which makes it impossible to install the air conditioner internal unit. For example, in my home, we can only remove the plaster line from the ceiling to ensure the height of the air conditioner internal unit.
Installing the air conditioner in place is the basic work that air conditioner installers need to do. If the installation position of your air conditioner is relatively low, you can apply for after-sales and let the installer take charge of the maintenance for free.
The cabinet air conditioner is quite special, and its air conditioning hole must not be lower than that of the indoor unit. However, the water collection pan of the cabinet air conditioner is 25cm at the bottom, as long as it is higher than the air conditioning hole. If the hole is too high, you can purchase a dedicated air conditioner cabinet bracket to raise the inner rack of the air conditioner.
Pipeline insulation damaged
Two metal pipes are needed to connect the internal and external units of the air conditioner. During the refrigeration process of the air conditioner, the temperature on the metal pipes will be relatively low. When water vapor in the air encounters low-temperature pipes, it will form condensed water, which will then drip into the room along the pipes.
Therefore, when installing air conditioners, the pipes are wrapped with a thick layer of insulation cotton. If the insulation cotton is damaged or the packaging is not tight, it will cause water dripping from the air conditioning pipes. At this time, just wrap it with insulation cotton again-if the outdoor insulation cotton is damaged, be sure to find a professional for repair, and don’t easily try working at height.
